Losing a tooth after a sports injury: dental implants in Belfast

Injury is part of the sportswoman or sportsman’s life. Bruises, strained muscles, or more serious cases like cuts and breaks happen. Playing contact sports like rugby, for example, can leave you looking quite weathered after a match. Or getting a hockey stick to the face can leave more than a mark. Losing a tooth (or many teeth) during a sports fixture, for example, is the worst-case scenario – but this should not make you panic. Getting dental implants in Belfast is now easier than ever at Sandown Dental & Implant Clinic.

Dental Hygiene in Belfast

The following blog post will explain what you can expect as one of our dental implant patients and how you can get in touch with us. Let’s get started!

Why should I replace my tooth with a dental implant in Belfast?

Once your tooth gets knocked out of your mouth, or it falls out, make an appointment with one of our team at Sandown Dental & Implant Clinic. We will talk to you and make a plan to meet you as soon as possible.

Each tooth in your mouth adds support to your face – without teeth, your face will look more sunken. Like the poles that keep a tent up, your teeth keep your face looking full, more youthful and supported. You also want to make sure that the rest of your teeth don’t shift because of the gap in your mouth. With all your teeth in place, you can also eat and talk without as much difficulty as when your teeth are missing.

I’m a new patient at the clinic – what can I expect?

We have broken down the process of acquiring a dental implant into three phases.

First phase: you’ll come into our clinic to talk with one of our team. They will assess your sporting injury and work on presenting you with a dental plan to get your smile back! It will also be explained to you what the costs are and how you can pay for your bespoke dental implant plan. Please ask us questions at any point – we’re happy to chat and help!

Second phase: Soon after the consultation process, we will work on placing the titanium implant into your jawbone. This is a fairly standard and routine process. Once the titanium screw is firmly in place, you’ll receive temporary crowns or bridges. You are ready for phase three.

Third phase: In this phase, you have to get some rest and heal from the surgery. The titanium anchor needs to integrate with your jawbone before anything else can happen. Once this happens, you’ll see your dentist again for your permanent crown or bridge.
